Dry needling involves inserting an acupuncture needle into a trigger zone of irritated muscle.

Acupuncture provides pain relief through the release of endorphins and balances energy levels in the body.

Dry needling should not hurt

The patient might sometimes feel a twitch or a slight cramp for a couple of seconds which is a desirable reaction for dry needling

Dry needling can be used for a variety of musculoskeletal problems.

Neuromuscular dysfunction and imbalances are thought to be a primary contributing factor to the symptoms.

Some of the common areas treated are neck, back and shoulder pain, forearm pain (tennis elbow, golfer’s elbow),tension-type headaches,buttock pain and leg pain (sciatica, hamstrings strains, calf tightness/spasms). The treatment of muscles has a great effect of reducing pain.

Trigger point is a focus of small muscle fibre contraction knots, which are related to the production and maintenance of the pain cycle. They often occur as a result of neuromuscular dysfunction and in areas of musculoskeletal stress.

About Us

South Sydney Osteopathic centre was started in 1970 by my father Des Donovan. He was a Chiropractor and Osteopath and also lectured at the then Chiropractic college in Sydney.

In 1986. I completed a BSc (anat) UNSW and in 1988 Graduated as a Chiropractor.
Donovan Chiropractic started and my father and I worked together for 15 years. His clinical experience was invaluable.

In 2003 I completed a Dry Needling course and due to my love and knowledge of anatomy I took to needling with great enthusiasm which has never waivered.

20 years on I have dry needled over 2 million pins and still going.
